Huntsville Man Charged with 13 Counts of Child Sex Exploitation

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A Lawrence County man is facing 13 federal charges related to child sex exploitation, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples.

David Edward Collier, 46, was arraigned in federal court last week on four counts of sexual exploitation of children, eight counts of transportation of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

According to the indictment, between January 2017 and August 2022, Collier allegedly used, induced, or coerced minor children to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing any visual depiction of that conduct.

Between October 2022 and September 2023, Collier transported the child pornography, and he was also charged with possession of child pornography.

The FBI North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force and Cybercrime Squad investigated the case, assisted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Moulton Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Huntsville Police Department, and Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant United States Attorney R. Leann White is prosecuting the case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the National Children’s Advocacy Center have partnered to release a digital series educating parents and caretakers about sextortion and how to prevent kids and teens from being victims.

This series offers three-to-five-minute videos about current online safety topics and provides essential information about the true dangers of online activities. The videos can be accessed at nationalcac.org/sextortion-prevention/ and on the National Children’s Advocacy Center’s YouTube channel.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, and to identify and rescue victims.
