Philip Guidry, Firearm Possession, Louisiana 2018

New Orleans – A 49-year-old Loranger man, Philip Guidry, has been handed a 21-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release for illegal firearm possession. United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe imposed the sentence on Friday.

Guidry was nabbed on March 2, 2018, following the discovery of multiple firearms during a search of his residence. Among the arsenal was an automatic rifle without a serial number, a clear violation of federal laws that bar felons from owning or possessing firearms.

The defendant entered a guilty plea to one count of possessing a firearm as a felon on February 7, 2019. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at curbing violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on high-risk offenders and collaborating with local programs for sustainable crime reduction.

U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Louisiana State Police for their roles in the investigation and prosecution of Guidry. Assistant United States Attorney David Howard Sinkman handled the case.

Guidry’s sentence underscores the federal government’s commitment to enforcing gun laws rigorously, particularly those designed to protect communities from individuals who have already demonstrated a propensity for violence.
