Two inmates at the Lewisburg Federal Prison in Pennsylvania have been charged with assaulting another inmate in December 2014.
According to court documents, Loren N. Smith, 36, and Jessy A. Nelson, 30, are accused of punching and kicking another inmate in the head on December 1, 2014. The incident is alleged to have taken place at the U.S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the charges on [no date given], stating that the government has filed plea agreements with each defendant, which are subject to approval by the court.
The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service. Assistant United States Attorney Wayne P. Samuelson has been assigned to prosecute the cases.
Both defendants are charged with a one-count felony Information, alleging that they assaulted another inmate. The maximum penalty under the federal statutes is 10 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine of $250,000.
