LAS VEGAS, NV – Lorenzo Lindsey, 28, is headed to federal prison for nearly six-and-a-half years after admitting to illegally possessing multiple firearms and ammunition while already a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Andrew P. Gordon handed down the 78-month sentence today, a stark warning to repeat offenders flouting gun laws.
Lindsey pleaded guilty in September 2020 to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The case dates back to November 16, 2018, when Lindsey was caught with three 9mm firearms and a full 100 rounds of ammunition while inside a Las Vegas gun store. The investigation further revealed he’d been stockpiling weapons at his home since June 2018, possessing another 9mm handgun and additional ammunition.
Court documents show Lindsey wasn’t just holding onto the weapons; he’d previously fired the 9mm at an indoor shooting range. This brazen disregard for the law is particularly troubling given his extensive criminal history. Authorities confirmed Lindsey has at least three prior felony convictions, automatically disqualifying him from legally owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition.
“This sentence underscores our commitment to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are legally prohibited from possessing them,” stated U.S. Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada. The ATF, led by Acting Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson, spearheaded the investigation, meticulously building the case against Lindsey.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Veronda skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting the evidence that ultimately led to the conviction and sentencing. The ATF’s San Francisco Field Division played a critical role in unraveling Lindsey’s illegal activity. The ATF encourages the public to report illegal firearms activity. Lindsey’s case serves as a grim reminder that federal agencies are actively pursuing individuals who violate gun laws, especially those with prior criminal records. The 78-month sentence sends a clear message: possessing firearms while a convicted felon carries significant consequences.
