LOS BANOS, CA – In a chilling development, former Los Banos Junior High School teacher Christian Banuelos, 30, has been charged by federal authorities with the heinous crime of sexual exploitation of a minor and the distribution of child pornography.
The charges stem from an investigation that spanned over two years. According to court documents, between July 8, 2022, and November 15, 2023, Banuelos used a minor to create a visual depiction of the minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The depravity does not end there; from December 9, 2019, until August 22, 2024, Banuelos is accused of receiving and distributing child pornography.
This case is a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of internet crimes against children. The investigation was conducted by no less than three law enforcement agencies: Homeland Security Investigations, the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Los Banos Police Department. Should Banuelos be found guilty on all counts, he faces a daunting sentence of up to 30 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a minor, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years. For the charge of receipt and distribution of child pornography, he could spend an additional 20 years behind bars, with a mandatory minimum of five years. Each crime also carries a fine of up to $250,000.
