GRENVILLE – The United States Attorney’s Office dropped a hammer on Louisburg, North Carolina resident DAVID EARL GILL, JR., 26, as he pleaded guilty in federal court to multiple firearm offenses, including armed carjacking and pawn fraud. Gill’s criminal escapade reached its climax when he forced entry into a residence, brandished a sawed-off shotgun, and stole the homeowner’s vehicle.
The July 31, 2015, incident in Louisburg was the start of a spree that ended with Gill being caught driving the stolen car on August 5, 2015. He pawned a reported stolen shotgun from Rockingham County at a Georgia store, setting off a police chase that led to his arrest.
According to court documents, Gill’s codefendant Kyara Nicole Jones had already pleaded guilty for her role in the heist. Now, Gill faces life imprisonment and five years of supervised release if sentenced to the maximum term.
The ATF, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and McIntosh Georgia Sheriff’s Office led the investigation that brought Gill to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jane Jackson and Bret Hobson prosecuted the cases in North Carolina and Georgia, respectively.
A sentencing hearing for Gill is scheduled for a later date, where he will have to face the full weight of his actions.
