Louisiana Sex Offender Nicolas Palmisano Sentenced to Life for Online Child Exploitation

Miami – In a shocking turn of events, Nicolas James Palmisano, a registered sex offender from Destrehan, Louisiana, has been handed a life sentence, with an additional 10 years to be served consecutively, for a litany of internet sex crimes against a Martin County minor. The 45-year-old Palmisano was found guilty by a federal jury following a two-day trial in May this year.

Palmisano’s criminal activities began in 2019 when he was convicted in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, for sexual offenses involving a juvenile. After serving his four-year sentence, he registered as a sex offender and resided in the town where the offense occurred. However, his actions did not cease there.

In May 2024, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office uncovered sexually explicit images on a minor’s phone. A computer forensic examiner traced the material back to Palmisano, who had sent thousands of messages and explicit content between February and May that year. Palmisano also obtained additional explicit images from the minor.

Law enforcement caught up with Palmisano in August 2024 when he appeared for his annual registration review at the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. A search warrant at his residence yielded more sexually explicit material exchanged between him and the minor. FBI Fort Pierce, along with MCSO, FBI New Orleans, and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.

Fort Pierce Branch Managing Assistant U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Lineberger and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Kahn Obenauf prosecuted Palmisano under Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. Palmisano was also ordered to serve 20 years of supervised release upon his release from custody and pay restitution.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by internet predators and the unwavering commitment of law enforcement and justice system to protect our children.
