Armed Methamphetamine Trafficking Lands Louisville Woman 126 Months in Prison
Katharine Richardson, a 36-year-old woman from Louisville, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for her role in an armed methamphetamine trafficking operation. Richardson was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
According to court documents, Richardson was stopped by law enforcement on August 26, 2023, while riding in a vehicle as the front seat passenger. A search of the vehicle revealed a backpack containing methamphetamine, a digital scale with drug residue, plastic baggies, two stolen firearms, and ammunition. An additional firearm was found in the vehicle’s trunk, along with $2,526.17 in cash.
Richardson admitted to possessing the firearms and acknowledged that she used at least one of them to facilitate her methamphetamine trafficking operation. Under federal law, Richardson must serve 85 percent of her prison sentence, which translates to 107.1 months.
Following her release from prison, Richardson will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for a period of five years. The investigation into Richardson’s activities was a joint effort between the DEA and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Spievack handling the prosecution on behalf of the United States.
The sentencing was announced by Carlton S. Shier, IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Orville O. Greene, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Detroit Field Division, and Sheriff Robert ‘Bud’ Webster of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department.
As Richardson faces the consequences of her actions, the community can take solace in knowing that those responsible for perpetuating the scourge of methamphetamine will be held accountable. Richardson’s case serves as a stark reminder of the risks and consequences associated with engaging in armed methamphetamine trafficking.
The U.S. Department of Justice’s commitment to combatting methamphetamine trafficking remains unwavering. As this case demonstrates, those involved in this illicit activity will be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice.
The sentencing of Katharine Richardson is a significant development in our ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of methamphetamine in our communities. We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those responsible for perpetuating this destructive trend.
