ROCKFORD, IL – Zachary Rodriguez, 26, of Loves Park, Illinois, has confessed to a sickening pattern of exploitation, pleading guilty today to producing child pornography. The case, detailed in a federal plea agreement, reveals a calculated effort to prey on vulnerable girls across multiple states.
According to court documents, Rodriguez began his crimes on November 6, 2014, convincing a 14-year-old female victim to engage in sexually explicit acts and then photograph them with her cell phone. The images were then transmitted across state lines, from Iowa to Loves Park, Illinois, directly to Rodriguez. This wasn’t an isolated incident; the plea agreement lays bare a disturbing series of similar offenses.
Between August 9, 2014, and January 20, 2015, Rodriguez allegedly manipulated four other minor female victims – aged 14 to 17 – residing in Ohio, Arizona, Connecticut, and Wisconsin. Using the same predatory tactic, he persuaded each girl to create and send him sexually explicit images via cell phone, funneling the illicit material back to Illinois. The sheer scope of the operation demonstrates a deliberate and callous disregard for the well-being of these young women.
Rodriguez now faces a harsh reckoning. The statutory mandatory minimum sentence is 15 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 30 years. Following his incarceration, he will also be subject to a term of supervised release of at least five years, potentially extending to life. In addition to imprisonment, Rodriguez could be ordered to pay a maximum fine of $250,000.
The announcement of Rodriguez’s guilty plea came from Zachary T. Fardon, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Michael J. Anderson, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Loves Park Police Department played a crucial role in the initial stages of the investigation, assisting federal authorities in building the case against Rodriguez. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Love is prosecuting the case.
Sentencing for Zachary Rodriguez is scheduled for May 8, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. This case serves as a grim reminder of the predators lurking in the digital shadows and the devastating impact of child exploitation. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the sentencing.
