Lower Brule Man Sentenced for Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance

Brendan V. Johnson, United States Attorney, announced that Jason Long, a 44-year-old man from Lower Brule, South Dakota, was sentenced on October 28, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange for his conviction of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Long was sentenced to time served, totaling 18.4 months, in addition to three years of supervised release, a $1,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on July 28, 2012, in Lyman County, when Long knowingly and intentionally distributed and possessed with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of AM 2201, a Schedule I controlled substance.

Long was indicted for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance by a federal grand jury on February 2, 2013. He subsequently pled guilty on August 12, 2014, after being investigated by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case against Long. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Long’s conviction and subsequent sentencing are a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in their pursuit of justice.
