Philip Brown, RICO Conspiracy, New York 2024

Buffalo native Philip Brown has been sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for his role in a RICO conspiracy involving murder and drug trafficking. The LRGP gang member was convicted of orchestrating the assassination of Amir Chambers as retribution for the death of Alonzo Scott, brother of LRGP leader Dewayne Gray.

Brown and his associates planned the hit at 111 Mills Street, where they executed the murder after a failed poisoning attempt by Alexis Mills. The victims’ lives were traded on the streets of Buffalo’s Lombard, Rother, Gibson, and Playter Streets, a hotbed for gang-related violence.

Prosecutors revealed that Brown was an active member of the LRGP from 2009 until his arrest in January 2012. The gang was known for its involvement in violent crime, including cocaine and crack distribution.

The investigation leading to Brown’s conviction was a collaborative effort by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, DEA New York Field Office, ATF New York Field Office, and the Buffalo Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel L. Violanti handled the case, and U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara presided over Brown’s sentencing. This sentence marks the culmination of a years-long investigation into the activities of the LRGP gang.

Brown is the last defendant to be sentenced out of the 17 individuals charged in this case.
