Fentanyl Trafficking Case Rocks Sacramento
Luis Vasquez-Lopez, a 47-year-old Mexican national residing in Sacramento, was sentenced to 10 years and 1 month in prison for possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute.
A U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb handed down the sentence on February 28, 2024, in a case that stems from a May 22, 2023, traffic stop in Sacramento.
During the stop, law enforcement officers located a large brick of fentanyl, a digital scale with residue on it, and a loaded 9 mm handgun.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF), and the California Highway Patrol.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hitt prosecuted the case.
The incident highlights the ongoing struggle against fentanyl trafficking in California and the need for continued vigilance from law enforcement agencies.
