SPRINGFIELD, MA – Luke Gagnon, 34, of West Springfield, Massachusetts, will spend the next seven years in federal prison after being sentenced today for sickening crimes against children. U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni delivered the sentence, alongside an additional ten years of supervised release, bringing a measure of justice to a case that exposed a dark corner of online exploitation.
Gagnon pleaded guilty in September 2020 to one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possession of the same. The charges stemmed from a January 2020 arrest following an investigation into the widespread distribution of these vile materials. Agents moved in after uncovering evidence of Gagnon’s involvement in the online trafficking of abuse imagery.
According to court documents, a search warrant executed at Gagnon’s West Springfield residence yielded a hard drive seized from his desktop computer. The drive contained numerous videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children. The investigation further revealed that Gagnon had been knowingly distributing this horrific content between September 2019 and January 2020, actively contributing to the spread of child exploitation.
The case was a collaborative effort, with the U.S. Secret Service, led by Special Agent in Charge Frederick J. Regan of the Boston Field Office, taking the lead. West Springfield Police Chief Paul Connor and South Hadley Police Chief Jennifer Gundersen also played vital roles in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle L. Dineen Jerrett, from Acting United States Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell’s Springfield Branch Office, successfully prosecuted the case.
This prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. The program is designed to combat child exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute offenders, and to rescue victims. The goal is to dismantle the networks that facilitate these crimes and protect vulnerable children.
