A brazen bank heist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has landed 24-year-old Jacob Allen Mack in federal prison for more than six years. Mack pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery on July 18, 2014, and was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade.
According to court documents, Mack robbed the downtown Cedar Rapids branch of Hills Bank and Trust on the morning of May 2, 2014. What’s more, he committed this crime while on federal supervised release following a 2011 conviction in federal district court for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Mack’s sentencing was the culmination of a case prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department. The prosecution presented a solid case, resulting in Mack being sentenced to fifty-seven months’ imprisonment for bank robbery.
In addition to the bank robbery sentence, Mack was also sentenced to a consecutive twenty-four months’ imprisonment for violating the terms of his federal supervised release. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he was ordered to make restitution to Hills Bank and Trust. Furthermore, Mack will have to serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
It’s worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system, so Mack will have to serve the entirety of his sentence. He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
