Macon, GA – A notorious Mafia founder is behind bars after pleading guilty to a federal gun charge.
Alphonzo Clyde, 45, of Macon, was charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Clyde is facing up to 15 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
He was taken into custody on October 8, 2023, after being spotted with a digital scale containing a white powdery substance and a marijuana odor emanating from his vehicle.
Officers found a Taurus G2S 9-millimeter handgun inside the glovebox, and Clyde’s multiple prior felony convictions made it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
“The Mafia criminal gang is tied to violent crime and large-scale fentanyl distribution in Macon and Middle Georgia, causing grave harm to our community,” said U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary.
Clyde’s sentencing is scheduled for July 3, and there is no parole in the federal system.
The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joy Odom is prosecuting the case for the Government.
