Magellan Executives Face Justice for Concealing Device Malfunction

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – In a shocking case of corporate malfeasance, three former executives of Magellan Diagnostics, Inc. (Magellan) have been sentenced in federal court for concealing a device malfunction that produced inaccurately low lead test results for thousands of children and other patients.

The defendants, Amy Winslow, former CEO, Hossein Maleknia, former COO, and Reba Daoust, former Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, were found guilty of introducing misbranded medical devices into interstate commerce and making false statements.

Winslow, 54, of Needham, Mass., was sentenced on October 27, 2025 by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Patti B. Saris to one year of home detention and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

Maleknia, 66, of Bonita Springs, Fla., was sentenced by Judge Saris on October 30, 2025 to nine months of home detention and ordered to pay a $20,000 fine.

Daoust, 69, of Amesbury, Mass., was sentenced by Judge Saris on November 21, 2025 to one year of probation, with the first six months to be served in home detention and ordered to pay a $600 fine.

The malfeasance occurred when Magellan’s LeadCare II and LeadCare Ultra devices, used to detect lead levels and lead poisoning, malfunctioned and produced inaccurately low results. By concealing the malfunction, the defendants put thousands of children and other patients at risk of delayed critical care, continued lead exposure, and compromised health.
