Mail Thief Sentenced in Centre County

WILLIAMSPORT – A Centre County woman has been sentenced for her role in a shocking case of mail theft. 27-year-old Jessica Stover, of Millheim, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to one year of probation on August 3, 2021, by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann for theft of mail.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Stover entered a guilty plea in March 2021 to theft of mail matter by a Postal Employee. In her plea, Stover admitted to opening greeting cards and other mail at a U.S. Post Office sorting facility for mail destined for students at Pennsylvania State University.

As part of her sentence, Stover was ordered to pay $350 in restitution to the victims and a $300 fine. The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur prosecuted the case.

Stover’s actions caused significant financial and emotional distress to the victims, who had their personal mail and packages stolen. This sentence serves as a reminder that mail theft is a serious crime that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
