WASHINGTON – Nyzir Miles, a 22-year-old from Washington, D.C., stood before Judge Robert Salerno today facing charges of assault with significant bodily injury and other offenses. The arraignment follows a string of violent attacks on his former girlfriend in late 2024.
Miles was indicted by a grand jury on September 10, 2025, for one felony count of assault with significant bodily injury and four misdemeanor counts including simple assault and obstructing law enforcement assistance.
According to the government’s evidence, Miles assaulted his girlfriend on September 2, 2024, resulting in dental fractures and several loose teeth. The violence escalated when Miles took her cell phone and continued to punch her repeatedly, causing her mouth to fill with blood and making it difficult for her to breathe.
Emergency medical services transported the victim to Howard University Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. Two months later, on November 10, 2024, Miles allegedly assaulted her again and attempted to prevent her from seeking help from law enforcement.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Lieberman handling the prosecution. Chief Pamela Smith of the department joined in the announcement today.
Despite the serious charges, an indictment is merely an allegation, and Miles is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
