Bank Robberies Leave Trail of Destruction in Gaithersburg

A 44-year-old Gaithersburg man is facing federal charges for allegedly committing two bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery in the area, according to a recent indictment.

Christopher Cline, also known as ‘Carisa Cline,’ is accused of attempting to rob a bank in Gaithersburg on January 28, 2021, and actually robbing two banks in the same city on January 29, 2021, and February 8, 2021, authorities said.

The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on June 2, 2021, alleges that Cline used some sort of force or intimidation during the robberies.

According to Acting United States Attorney Jonathan F. Lenzner, ‘This case is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the FBI and the Montgomery County Police Department.’

Cline faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison if convicted, U.S. Attorney Lenzner said. A federal district court judge will determine the actual sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Cline was ordered to be detained pending trial by U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles B. Day during his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. An indictment is not a finding of guilt, and Cline is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a later court proceeding.

The FBI and Montgomery County Police Department were commended for their work in the investigation by U.S. Attorney Lenzner, who also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey J. Izant for prosecuting the case.
