Man Charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
A federal indictment has charged Ira D. Weasel, 32, with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Little Eagle, South Dakota. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on March 13, 2013, alleges that Weasel committed the crime, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine or both, and a period of supervised release of 3 years.
Weasel, who appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on March 20, 2013, pled not guilty to the indictment. The investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley has been assigned to prosecute the case. Weasel was released on bond pending trial, which has been set for May 21, 2013.
