A Martinsburg federal court has handed down a 37-month sentence to Chance Allen Good, 26, of Stanley, Virginia, for his role in a firearms charge. The court delivered its verdict on Thursday.
Good, who had previously entered a guilty plea to one count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm in December 2018, admitted to owning a stolen .22 caliber rifle in Mineral County in March 2018.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, The West Virginia State Police, and the Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force investigated, with funding provided by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF).
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a range of stakeholders collaborate to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case.
Good’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea and the evidence presented during the investigation. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which the federal government views firearms offenses and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
This sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing firearms offenses and the importance of community collaboration in addressing violent crime.
