Man Shot New Haven Restaurant Employee in 2015
A New Haven man, Treizy Lopez, has pleaded guilty to shooting a restaurant employee during a botched heist in 2015.
According to U.S. Attorney Leonard C. Boyle, Lopez, 24, of New Haven, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer to one count of attempted interference with commerce by robbery, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
The crime occurred on April 11, 2015, when Lopez, along with Tythrone Ford and another man, entered the Smokin’ Wings restaurant on Congress Avenue in New Haven, demanding money at gunpoint. Lopez subsequently discharged a firearm, shooting a female employee in the stomach.
Forensic analysis revealed that the .22 caliber revolver used in the shooting was also used in an attempted robbery at Sapiaos Market in Bridgeport, where the owner, Jose Salgado, was shot and killed.
Lopez is currently incarcerated in state custody after being convicted of offenses related to his role in the robbery and homicide at Sapiaos Market.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter D. Markle, Jocelyn C. Kaoutzanis, and Nathaniel J. Gentile are prosecuting the case through the Justice’s Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program and Project Longevity.
