Manslaughter Charge Admitted by Dennis Lloyd Red Boy

GREAT FALLS – A 28-year-old Poplar resident has admitted to his role in the death of a six-month-old baby. Dennis Lloyd Red Boy pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in federal court on [date].

According to prosecutors, on August 15, 2017, Red Boy was caring for children in Poplar, on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, when the baby would not stop crying. Red Boy then took the baby, flipped her over onto her back, and placed a heavy blanket on her, ultimately causing her death.

Red Boy immediately sought help after discovering the baby was not breathing. He acknowledges that his actions were the proximate cause of the baby’s death.

U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said in a statement that Red Boy faces a maximum of eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris will preside over the sentencing hearing, which is set for June 5.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Weldon is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI. Red Boy is currently detained pending sentencing.
