Man Charged with Firearm Possession While in US Illegally
RICHMOND, Va. – Manuel Dejesus Perez-Agustin, a 39-year-old man residing in Richmond, pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm illegally in the United States.
According to court documents, Perez-Agustin had previously entered the United States illegally, been removed in January 2011 at taxpayer expense, and then re-entered the country again.
‘This individual has no regard for our nation’s laws,’ said Lyle A. Boelens, Acting Field Office Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Washington, D.C. ‘Not only did he re-enter the country after deportation, he was arrested in possession of a firearm, making him a threat to public safety.’
Perez-Agustin pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm while being illegally in the United States and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison when sentenced on July 31. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which is the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
