Rosebud Man Jailed 12 Months for Assaulting Officer

A Rosebud man was sentenced to 12 months in custody and $25 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund after assaulting an officer, prosecutors announced.

Jesse Young, 36, of Rosebud, South Dakota, was sentenced on June 28, 2013, by U.S. District Judge Mark A. Moreno, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Young’s conviction stems from an incident on May 29, 2012, when he was being escorted to a restraint chair by the victim. Young was non-compliant and spat at the victim, hitting them with saliva on their face and ear.

The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.

Young was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The charges against Young were brought after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 11, 2012, and pled guilty to the charge on March 15, 2013.
