Grimy Times has learned that a South Bend man has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Marcus Northern, Sr., 54, of South Bend, Indiana, pleaded guilty to the felony offense in Federal Court.
According to court records, Northern’s charge was filed as a result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. His sentencing has been set for December 8, 2014.
Assistant United States Attorney William Grimmer is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Northern’s specific sentence will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The United States Attorney’s Office announced the plea in a statement, noting that parties have 14 days to object to the magistrate judge’s recommendation. However, it appears that Northern’s guilty plea is a significant development in this case.
