Maria Del Rocio Veloz-Alonso Indicted for Reentering U.S. Illegally

ERIE, Pa. — Grimy Times has exclusively learned that Maria Del Rocio Veloz-Alonso, a 28-year-old woman with roots in Guanajuato, Mexico, has been slapped with serious federal charges for illegal reentry into the United States.

According to the U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton, a one-count indictment was brought against Veloz-Alonso by a federal grand jury in Erie. The charge stems from her alleged presence within the country without permission from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on or about January 14, 2013.

This is no mere slip-up; Veloz-Alonso had been previously ordered deported and summarily removed from the United States on August 27, 2010. She made her ill-fated return to American soil just three months later on April 1, 2011.

The Department of Justice is not taking this breach in immigration law lightly. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment or a fine of $250,000—or both. Her fate will be determined by the severity of her offense and any prior criminal history, should she have one.

Assistant United States Attorney Christine A. Sanner is spearheading the prosecution for the government, leaving no stone unturned in seeking justice for this transgression against U.S. immigration laws.

The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection was instrumental in the investigation leading to Veloz-Alonso’s indictment. As always, an indictment is merely an accusation, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
