Mario Zetino-Alvarez, Illegal Reentry, South Dakota 2026

RAPID CITY – Guatemalan national Mario Zetino-Alvarez, 25, was sentenced to time served in federal court for reentering the United States after being deported in 2024.

Zetino-Alvarez was discovered in South Dakota on October 21, 2025, by law enforcement, who found he was an alien unlawfully present in the country.

He was previously deported from the US and did not receive permission to reenter the country, which is a federal felony.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced Zetino-Alvarez on March 30, 2026, and he was immediately deported.

Zetino-Alvarez pleaded guilty on December 19, 2025, to the charges of Illegal Reentry after Deportation.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case.
