Mark Isham Guilty of Pummeling Partner to Pulp

A federal jury in Minnesota has delivered a guilty verdict against Mark Allen Isham, 61, for his role in a violent assault on the Bois Forte Indian Reservation.

The victim, who cannot be named due to the nature of the crime, suffered a brutal beating at the hands of Isham, who repeatedly punched and battered them over the course of several days.

According to court documents, the assault began on March 13, 2023, and escalated on March 19, 2023, when Isham became enraged and started punching the victim with a closed fist.

The victim, who was trapped inside Isham’s residence, was forced to endure days of physical and emotional abuse, including being denied access to their wheelchair. It wasn’t until March 24, 2023, when the victim managed to call 911 while Isham was outside chopping firewood, that law enforcement was alerted to the situation.

When officers arrived at the scene, Isham initially denied the victim’s presence, prompting the victim to call out to the responding officers. The victim’s visible injuries included a split lip, black eye, and bruising on their arms, legs, and head.

As a result of the assault, the victim required surgery to repair a broken jaw, a gruesome reminder of the severity of Isham’s actions.

In a five-day trial in U.S. District Court before Judge Katherine M. Menendez, Isham was found guilty of one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of assault resulting in substantial bodily injury.

The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Bois Forte Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Carla J. Baumel and Nichole J. Carter trying the case.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date, and Isham faces the possibility of significant prison time for his crimes.

This disturbing case highlights the ongoing problem of domestic violence on Native American reservations, where victims often face unique challenges in seeking help and justice.
