A local Omaha man has been sentenced to 160 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Mark Smith, 51, was sentenced on June 20, 2024, in federal court in Omaha for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, on July 16, 2022, Smith was a passenger in a car that was stopped by the Omaha Police for a traffic violation. Officers discovered a black drawstring bag between his feet, which contained four plastic baggies of methamphetamine weighing a total of 77 grams.
In addition to the methamphetamine, officers also found a loaded .45-caliber pistol, a digital scale, and $401 in cash. The pistol had been reported stolen.
Smith will serve 160 months in federal prison, with no parole available in the federal system. After his release, he will begin a 4-year term of supervised release.
The investigation into Smith’s crimes was led by the Omaha Police.
