Leonires Perez-Gonzales, Methamphetamine Distribution and Gun Possession, Nebraska 2024

A 31-year-old Omaha man is facing a lengthy stint in federal prison after being sentenced to more than 20 years for methamphetamine and gun charges.

Leonires Perez-Gonzales, 31, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced May 10, 2024, in federal court in Omaha after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking.

Perez-Gonzales was handed a 248-month prison sentence, with no parole available in the federal system. Following his release, he will face a 5-year term of supervised release.

The investigation into Perez-Gonzales’s activities began in March 2023, when law enforcement utilized a confidential source to purchase one pound of methamphetamine from a Mexico-based source of supply. The transaction was arranged through text messages with the confidential source and Perez-Gonzales, both coordinating with the Mexico-based seller.

On April 11, 2023, a separate transaction took place, with the confidential source again coordinating with the Mexico-based seller and Perez-Gonzales to purchase one pound of methamphetamine. This time, the sale occurred in Omaha, with Perez-Gonzales selling the methamphetamine to the confidential source for $2,500.

On April 17, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Perez-Gonzales’s Omaha storage unit, locating a significant amount of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and multiple firearms. A search warrant executed at a co-defendant’s apartment the following day uncovered even more illicit items, including three 9 mm handguns, two rifles, and a safe containing over a kilogram of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

By pleading guilty, Perez-Gonzales waived any claim to the seized assets, including cash and firearms. His co-defendant, Aleah Meyer, is set to stand trial later this month and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The investigation was a result of collaborative efforts between the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the severe consequences of those involved in its distribution.
