ABINGDON, VA – A Norfolk man, serving a federal prison sentence for illegally possessing a firearm, will serve additional time for illegally possessing marijuana inside a federal prison.
Terrance Edward Brown, 34, of Norfolk, pled guilty in January 2015 to one count of possessing a prohibited object, marijuana, while being an inmate at the United States Penitentiary Lee (USP Lee).
The incident occurred on March 3, 2015. Brown was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five years in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon.
“Mr. Brown has repeatedly shown that he has no desire to follow the laws of the United States, whether it is outside the walls of the federal penitentiary or inside,” United States Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr. said.
The investigation of the case was conducted by the Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Special Assistant United States Attorney Debbie Stevens prosecuted the case for the United States.
Brown was previously serving a federal prison sentence for illegally possessing a firearm.
The case highlights the seriousness of possessing marijuana inside a federal prison, which is a crime that can result in additional prison time.
