Grimy Times has learned that Patar ONeal Montgomery, a 38-year-old resident of Dazell, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 156 months in prison for his involvement in a large-scale cocaine and crack cocaine trafficking conspiracy in Sumter, South Carolina.
According to Acting United States Attorney Beth Drake, Montgomery’s sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten on July 7, 2016. Montgomery will also serve 5 years of supervised release after his prison term.
The conspiracy, which lasted from April 2012 to July 2015, involved the distribution of over 65 kilograms of powder cocaine and over 650 grams of crack cocaine. Montgomery was one of six defendants who pleaded guilty to their involvement in the conspiracy.
Evidence presented at the sentencing hearings established that Montgomery was a key player in the conspiracy, supplying large numbers of violent street-level cocaine and crack cocaine dealers in Sumter. The investigation, which began over a year ago, was conducted by the FBI, DEA, and City of Sumter Task Force Officers.
As a result of the investigation, agents seized over 9 kilograms of powder cocaine, almost $900,000, and 8 firearms used in furtherance of drug trafficking. Eight other defendants have also been convicted or pleaded guilty in connection with the conspiracy and will be sentenced at a later date.
The case is an example of the fine work being done by Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies working together through the Columbia Violent Gang Task Force (CVGTF) in South Carolina.
The CVGTF consists of the following agencies: Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sumter Police Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Columbia Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and South Carolina Army National Guard Counterdrug Unit.
