Defendant Indicted in Cocaine and Heroin Trafficking Case

A federal grand jury has indicted James Latron Sumter, a/k/a ‘T’, age 35, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin, in connection with suspected opioid overdoses that resulted in serious bodily injury or death.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in the District of South Carolina, charges Sumter with violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 846 and 841(b)(1)(C). This charge carries a mandatory sentence of imprisonment of 20 years to life if Sumter is convicted.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Everett McMillian of the Florence office for prosecution.
