Marijuana Kingpin Gets 27 Months in Prison
A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for his role in a marijuana distribution conspiracy.
Wesley Robert Kleinsasser, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on December 8, 2014, after pleading guilty to the offense on September 9, 2014.
Kleinsasser was indicted with three others for Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana by a federal grand jury on March 5, 2014.
As part of the conspiracy, Kleinsasser traveled from Sioux Falls to California multiple times to purchase marijuana, which was then distributed to co-conspirators and others in South Dakota.
The case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Haak prosecuted the case, which highlights the ongoing efforts to combat marijuana trafficking in the region.
Kleinsasser will serve 27 months in prison, followed by 2 years of supervised release. His conviction serves as a reminder that those involved in marijuana trafficking will be held accountable for their actions.
