Fatal Fentanyl Sale Lands St. Louis Man 17-Year Prison Sentence
A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for selling a fatal dose of fentanyl to a Florissant man who later died from the overdose.
Markquis Bryant, 25, sold the deadly fentanyl on March 6, 2020, to a 27-year-old Florissant man who was found dead the next morning by his father.
Florissant police launched an investigation and determined that Bryant was the source of the fentanyl. Undercover officers then purchased fentanyl from Bryant at his home in the 5300 block of Queens Avenue in St. Louis.
On March 26, 2020, authorities executed a federal search warrant at Bryant’s residence and discovered five firearms, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine, as well as paraphernalia consistent with drug sales.
Bryant pleaded guilty in February to one count of distribution of a controlled substance, a federal crime.
The case was investigated by the Florissant Police Department with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
A search of Markquis Bryant’s residence yielded eight ounces of suspected fentanyl/heroin, one ounce of crack cocaine, one fully loaded AR-15 semi-automatic pistol, three 9mm pistols with extended 32-round magazines, and one revolver.
The investigation into Bryant’s fentanyl trafficking operation resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illicit drugs and firearms.
