Marlin Louis Carman, Child Pornography, Texas 2018

A Baytown man has been ordered to federal prison for his role in multiple child pornography crimes, announced U.S. Attorney Ryan Patrick.

Marlin Louis Carman, 50, of Baytown, pleaded guilty to the crimes on February 16, 2018. He was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for each of the charges, which will run concurrently. Carman was also ordered to pay $15,300 in special assessments and will serve 10 years on supervised release following completion of his prison term.

Carman was found to have been in possession of 3,090 videos and 13,519 images of child pornography, some of which are of known victims identified through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He admitted to using his email account to communicate with others to search for, download, and obtain child pornography, as well as distributing it through his online account.

The FBI conducted the investigation, which led to Carman’s arrest. He was taken into custody following the sentencing hearing and will be transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility at a later date.

Carman’s crimes were part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

As part of his sentence, Carman will have to register as a sex offender and comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the internet during his 10 years of supervised release.
