A disturbing case of child sex abuse has come to light in South Dakota, where a 38-year-old man from the Ring Thunder Community has been indicted on federal charges.
Marshall Knife, a resident of Ring Thunder, South Dakota, has been accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Aggravated Incest. The indictment, which was handed down on April 12, 2022, alleges that Knife knowingly engaged in and attempted to engage in a sexual act with a minor female between January 1, 2019, and November 30, 2021.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 15 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, up to life of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Knife appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 29, 2022, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. He was subsequently remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Abby Roesler prosecuting the case.
The charges against Knife are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If convicted, however, the consequences could be severe, with a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years and a substantial fine.
