A Parkersburg man is facing up to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a carjacking charge.
Marshall Leroy Saunders, 29, was accused of hijacking a taxi in Wood County on October 6, 2016.
According to court documents, Saunders pointed a loaded pistol at the driver and ordered him out of the vehicle after police attempted to pull the taxi over. Saunders then took control of the taxi and fled to Parkersburg, driving at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour and running a red light.
The taxi was found abandoned in Parkersburg, and Saunders was apprehended by police after hiding in a wooded area.
The investigation was conducted by the Vienna Police Department, the Parkersburg Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Assistant United States Attorney James Matthew Davis is handling the prosecution. Saunders will be sentenced on November 15, 2017.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States.
