Re-Entry into U.S. after Deportation Lands Illegal Alien Behind Bars
PITTSBURGH – In a shocking case of disregard for the law, Martin Esquivel-Hernandez, a 35-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of re-entry into the United States after deportation.
According to the indictment, Martin Esquivel-Hernandez was removed from the United States by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement on multiple occasions. His removal dates include November 4, 2011, December 8, 2011, April 11, 2012, and May 19, 2012.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
