Marvin Gamoneda, Shooting and Gang Violence, New York 2018

A brazen shooting in the middle of the afternoon in a playground in the Bronx has resulted in a guilty plea. Marvin Gamoneda, a 34-year-old Bronx resident and member of the Woodycrime gang, has admitted to his involvement in the shooting on June 7, 2018, in the Nelson Playground.

According to the indictment, Woodycrime was a criminal enterprise involved in committing numerous acts of violence, including attempted murders and assaults, as well as drug dealing in the Bronx. Members and associates of Woodycrime engaged in violence to retaliate against rival gangs, to preserve and expand the gang’s territory, and to protect the gang’s narcotics business.

Gamoneda pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and using and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, which carries a maximum sentence of life and a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.

The shooting injured two victims, including a 13-year-old child. Audrey Strauss, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, commended the NYPD and FBI for their outstanding investigative work.

Gamoneda will be sentenced before Judge John G. Koeltl on July 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.

The case was handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, with Assistant United States Attorneys Andrew K. Chan, Jacob R. Fiddelman, and James Ligtenberg leading the prosecution.
