Marzavious Thomas, Malicious Damage and Destruction by Fire, Illinois 2022

ROCKFORD, IL – A 27-year-old Rockford man is facing serious federal charges after allegedly setting fire to two churches on East State Street on October 19, 2022. Marzavious Thomas has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of malicious damage and destruction by fire, a crime that carries a hefty prison sentence if convicted.

According to the indictment, Thomas allegedly ignited fires at both church locations. Details surrounding the motive remain scarce at this time, and authorities are keeping specifics of the investigation tightly under wraps. The fires prompted a rapid response from the Rockford Fire Department, but the damage was already done. Law enforcement quickly zeroed in on Thomas as a suspect.
