New Iberia Man Gets 24 Months for Unregistered Silencers
A 50-year-old New Iberia man will spend 24 months behind bars for possessing unregistered silencers, federal authorities announced.
Brennan James Comeaux, a 50-year-old New Iberia resident, was sentenced by United States District Judge David C. Joseph for possession of silencers not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to court documents, agents executed a search warrant at Comeaux’s residence on June 2, 2022, and recovered numerous silencers and silencer parts, including two silver and three black completed firearm silencers.
Comeaux also had multiple firearm manuals explaining how to modify and assemble firearms and silencers, which agents seized during the search.
Comeaux pleaded guilty to the charge on February 6, 2024, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Casey Richmond.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
