Mass Man Sentenced for Minor Enticement, Sex Travel

A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for attempting to entice a 12-year-old girl and her younger sister into sexual encounters. Cody J. Hansen, 38, of Orange, MA., was caught after communicating online with an undercover detective he believed to be the girls’ caretaker.

Hansen’s crime began when he posted an online ad seeking someone who enjoyed “playing when the girl is passed out.” He later drove to Rhode Island in May 2018, where he met with a person he thought was the girls’ guardian. Upon realizing that the guardian was actually a police detective, Hansen was immediately arrested.

In December 2021, Hansen pleaded guilty to attempted enticement of a minor, attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor, and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., sentenced him to 120 months in federal prison, followed by twenty years of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dulce Donovan as part of Project Safe Childhood. Hansen’s actions are a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online predators and the efforts of law enforcement to protect children.

United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha announced the sentence, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding minors from such predatory behavior.
