A child’s worst nightmare came true in Kyle, South Dakota, when 33-year-old Matthew Harold Iron Sr. allegedly held a large knife to the neck and stomach area of an infant in November 2016.
The victim, an innocent child, was left shaken and traumatized after the heinous act committed by Iron.
According to court documents, Iron was charged with Felony Child Abuse and Neglect on December 20, 2016. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case, which ultimately led to Iron’s sentencing on February 5, 2018.
In a shocking turn of events, Iron was sentenced to 13 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court. Iron was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
