CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – A Manchester man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a bank robbery that took place in 2015, according to a recent court decision.
Matthew Ireland, 36, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was found guilty of one count of bank robbery, announced Acting United States Attorney Donald Feith.
The court imposed a term of 120 months’ imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and full restitution to the victim.
Ireland committed the crime on January 31, 2015, when he walked into a TD Bank in Manchester, New Hampshire, wearing a black ski mask, a hood, sunglasses, and dark clothing.
He demanded money from two tellers and made off with more than $4,000 in stolen funds.
Ireland was apprehended the same day near the Manchester/Bedford town line after leading police on a brief chase.
Manchester and Bedford Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop of Ireland’s vehicle, but he fled on foot and was later apprehended after dropping a large sum of cash into the road.
Manchester Police recovered most of the stolen money and found clothing consistent with that worn during the robbery in Ireland’s vehicle.
This case was investigated by the Manchester Police, the Bedford Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Georgiana L. Konesky.
Ireland will serve a total of 120 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and is required to pay full restitution to the victim.
The bank robbery and subsequent apprehension of Ireland were a result of a joint effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Ireland’s conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of community policing and the impact that crime can have on individuals and society as a whole.
