Grimy Times has learned that Matthew Joshua Green, a 36-year-old man from Clayton County, Georgia, has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
According to court documents, the charges stem from a traffic stop on April 18, 2018, along Interstate 10 in Baldwin County, Alabama. Green was pulled over for failing to maintain his lane of travel and was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, digital scales, and marijuana.
Green had prior felony convictions, including aggravated battery, vehicular homicide, receiving stolen property, felony willful obstruction of law enforcement officers by use of threats or violence, and possession of cocaine prior to possessing a firearm.
During the traffic stop, Green resisted arrest and attempted to push the deputy into oncoming traffic, prompting a probable cause search of the vehicle.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baldwin County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Michael D. Anderson prosecuting the case.
As a result of Green’s reckless endangerment during flight, the court applied a sentencing enhancement, leading to the 96-month prison sentence. Green will serve his time in a federal correctional facility.
The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of felons possessing firearms and the consequences that come with such actions.
