A despicable individual from Cedar Falls, Iowa, has been brought to justice for his heinous crimes.
Matthew Neberman, age 31, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor.
The sentencing occurred on May 8, 2019, in Cedar Rapids. This sentence is a direct result of Neberman’s guilty plea on October 30, 2018, to one count of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Neberman had masturbated on a webcam in an attempt to persuade, induce, and entice a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl to engage in sex acts with him and produce sexually explicit depictions of herself, which he would then receive.
Neberman’s actions are a stark reminder of the dangers of the internet and the importance of protecting our children from predators.
As part of his sentence, Neberman must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release and comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
