Violent Home Invasions Land Defendants Over 100 Years in Prison
ROCHESTER, NY – Matthew Nix, 37, and Earl McCoy, 36, have been sentenced to 155 years and 135 years in prison respectively for masterminding a string of violent home invasions in the Rochester area.
The defendants were convicted of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, attempted Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, carrying and brandishing firearms during a crime of violence, narcotics conspiracy, carrying firearms during a drug trafficking crime, and possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert A. Marangola and Everardo A. Rodriguez stated that Nix and McCoy led a group of criminals who engaged in armed home invasions of individuals they believed were drug dealers, as well as a jewelry wholesaler in the Town of Greece.
The group, which included Jecovious Barnes, Jessica Moscicki, and McCoy’s younger brothers Clarence Lambert and Gary Lambert, all of whom have been convicted, targeted homes based on information gathered by Nix and McCoy.
The defendants would supply firearms to their accomplices, who would then break into the locations, brandishing firearms and demanding money and drugs. In some instances, the victims were zip-tied at gunpoint and pistol-whipped.
The defendants stole large quantities of cash, drugs, cell phones, and even guns from the locations. One notable incident occurred on October 7, 2014, when Nix and McCoy, along with their accomplices, broke into the home of a jeweler in the Town of Greece, stealing over $200,000 in luxury watches, diamonds, and cash.
Matthew Nix and Earl McCoy will serve 155 years and 135 years in prison respectively for their roles in the violent home invasions. The case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of violent crime and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.
