Mauro Diaz-Diaz, Illegal Reentry, Florida 2025

Tampa, Florida Man Charged with Illegal Reentry After Voluntary Return to US

A 29-year-old Mexican national has been indicted for allegedly re-entering the United States after being previously deported.

Mauro Diaz-Diaz, 29, was found to be voluntarily in the United States on January 14, 2025, after having been removed on September 27, 2014, without receiving consent from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, alleges that Diaz-Diaz violated federal law by re-entering the country without permission.

According to the indictment, Diaz-Diaz had not received the necessary consent to reapply for admission, which is a requirement for individuals who have been previously deported.

“An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty,” a statement from the US Attorney’s Office noted.

Mauro Diaz-Diaz faces a maximum penalty of two years in federal prison if convicted of the charge.

The case was investigated by United States Customs and Border Protection with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang.
